Cindy Darabi (BVA, BEd, MPP Performing Arts) is a contemporary circus and physical theatre creator whose aim is to convey meaningful and thought provoking stories in collaboration with dedicated performers of diverse age, culture and ability.
“I love to convey stories that are relatable and based on contemporary experience, but within each story weave a thread – a little pearl of wisdom drawn from folk tales and traditions. I draw my inspiration from wild tales of old, particularly in terms of gaining from them a crucial re-identification with the natural world.”
Based in Maleny on the Queensland Sunshine Coast Hinterland, Cindy often collaborates with Sylph Circus (the youth circus established by her in 2011) and local performance artists and musicians. She is available by invitation to devise a performance or run a bespoke workshop with your ensemble or student group.

Limbo: A Refugee Story
This contemporary circus production imagines what it would be like if we, as Australian’s had reason to seek refuge. Limbo was informed by stories of those in our community who have been refugees, seeking asylum in Australia. Directed by Cindy Darabi, Limbo is a collaboration between young Sylph Circus performers and professional musicians Aleathea Monsour and Sue Moxon. Lyrics that Aleathea sings were written by refugees in community detention.
She Melts
She Melts tells the story of one woman’s path home to her heart after overcoming a myriad of tricks, traps and distractions along the way. Interwoven with cautionary folk tales for women, the story is told through circus aerials, physical theatre and spoken word. It was created and performed by Cindy Darabi in collaboration with multi-instrumentalist, Sue Moxon.
