Vasilissa is an immersive open air performance presented by four Sylph Circus performers and Sirin Ensemble, a choir of six powerful female voices. This retelling of the traditional Russian folk tale leads audiences through a secret Maleny forest, following the adventures of Vasilissa, a young teen tricked by her peers into asking the crazy witch of the woods for fire.
Vasilissa is a coming of age story for girls traditionally told to fortify them on their journey to womanhood. Young women and girls are invited to participate in an artist and counselor lead discussion at 11am on the Sunday, to jointly unpack the tale with relevance to mental challenges commonly faced by young women today.
Vasilissa is directed by Cindy Darabi (Director Sylph Circus) with musical director Stephanie Arlidge (Choir Master, Sirin Ensemble).
Stay turned for the announcement of several seasons in Maleny throughout 2021.
